Keeping the County Moving: Livingston County Recognizes Highway Department’s Successful 2025 Season

Home Posted on October 24, 2025

MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y., Oct. 24, 2025 Livingston County officials are applauding the outstanding work of the Livingston County Highway Department following the completion of their successful 2025 construction season.

This year, the County’s Highway team rehabilitated more than 18 miles of local roads and completed 32 miles of chip seal surface treatments, while performing highway maintenance and construction work across the County ranging from Springwater to York. Notable projects include the full-depth recycling of Begole Road in Mount Morris, final paving on Linwood and Walker Roads in York, and a full mill and pave over of Stagecoach Road spanning from Conesus to Sparta. The Highway Department’s efforts underscore the County’s commitment to maintaining safe and reliable infrastructure for residents, visitors and local businesses, said Livingston County Board Chair David LeFeber.

“Our Highway personnel deserve a lot of credit for the work they perform throughout the year,” he said. “In all conditions, they’re out there keeping Livingston County connected and safe. Through their dedication and expertise, they consistently deliver high-quality projects that improve our roads and bridges, strengthen our economy and enhance daily life for all those living or traveling through our County. We commend them for their outstanding efforts, not just during summer construction season, but throughout the entire year.”

Project costs for the 2025 construction season totaled more than $4.3 million with a mix of local and state funding. Livingston County provided a total of $1,615,000, with New York State contributing more than $3.6 million through several state programs.

“I want to sincerely thank our entire Highway team for their hard work and dedication throughout the year,” said Highway Superintendent Jason Wolfanger. “Because of their expertise and attention to detail, Livingston County continues to have some of the safest, best-maintained roads and bridges in the state.”

The Livingston County Highway Department oversees maintenance and repair for 242 miles of highway and 73 bridges, including 55 on town roads. Its responsibilities include road and bridge building and reconstruction, paving and surface treating, shoulder grading, tree and brush cutting, traffic-sign maintenance and fabrication, and more.

The Highway team is now looking ahead to the cold weather season and preparing for the challenges it brings. Each year, they solicit competitive bids for bulk road salt and other de-icing materials to control costs and guarantee availability throughout the season. As part of its year-round operations, the department contracts with all 17 towns in the County to provide snow and ice removal on County roads, allowing local crews to respond quickly when weather becomes severe.
