Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation Welcomes New Assistant Directors of Nursing

Home Posted on February 26, 2025

MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y., Feb. 26, 2025 — The Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation (CNR) is pleased to announce the addition of Registered Nurses April Curtis and Christopher Grassmann as assistant directors of nursing.

In their roles, Curtis and Grassmann manage the day-to-day operations of the CNR’s nursing staff, while providing administrative support to the director of nursing services. CNR Director of Long-Term Care Eric Townsend said he expects the pair to play an essential role in continuing to provide top-level care to facility residents and their families.

“I’m excited to welcome these two experienced and dedicated individuals to our outstanding nursing team,” he said. “Their skillsets and expertise will help us to continue our tradition of providing the highest standards of patient-centered care here at the CNR.”

Curtis brings more than nine years of nursing experience, including a previous position as assistant director of nursing at Steuben Center, a skilled nursing facility in Bath, N.Y. Curtis also served in the armed forces as a multichannel transmission systems operator-maintainer in the U.S. Army. She is a graduate of Genesee Community College, where she worked to earn her degree in nursing. She first began her tenure with the CNR as a charge nurse focused on employee health, safety, and infection control. She said her previous roles have helped her to grow as a leader and adapt quickly to new situations. She plans to continue using this skillset to further streamline operations at the CNR.

“I would like to continue to improve an already great place to work and continue to grow and improve our facility,” said Curtis, who stepped into this new role with the CNR in December of 2024. “To enrich the lives of our customers is my ultimate goal, be it a resident, family member or the staff we work with.”

In her spare time, Curtis volunteers with the Dansville VFW post 6780 where she also serves as a trustee.

CNR Director of Nursing Brittany Ritenburg stated, “We are glad to have April and Chris join our Nursing Administration team. Both individuals bring a diverse background and strong clinical experience that will assist in our continued growth at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.”

Prior to joining the CNR this month, Grassmann served in the Rochester Regional Health Communications Center since 2020. There he performed initial patient assessments to determine the appropriate medical resources needed. His 11 years of experience in the healthcare field also includes positions in the neuromedicine intensive care unit and mobile stroke unit at Strong Memorial Hospital, and the Nicholas Noyes Hospital Intensive Care Unit. In addition, he currently serves as a paramedic with Livonia and Pittsford Volunteer Ambulances. He also volunteers with the Livingston County Special Operations Team and Conesus Volunteer Fire Department. Grassmann is a graduate of St. John Fisher College where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

“I’m looking forward to learning as much as possible in this position,” said Grassmann. “I also plan to meet and build relationships with as many team members, residents, and families, as I can to provide the best care.”

When not at work, Grassmann enjoys spending time outside, especially on the lakes throughout the region.

The CNR offers 24-hour skilled nursing services ranging from short-term, post-acute rehabilitative care to traditional long-term care. Residents receive care in a manner that addresses the needs of the individual. The 266-bed facility, which recently earned four stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, promotes a friendly, welcoming atmosphere with activities that involve friends, family, volunteers, and pets to create a homelike environment for residents.

One of the most comprehensive nursing homes in the area, the CNR offers various treatment methods and modern healthcare options, including audiology, consulting podiatry, dentistry, speech therapy, ophthalmology, occupational therapy, pharmacological services, hair care, and more.
