Livingston County Staff Donate Back to School Supplies to Local Students in Need

Home Posted on August 14, 2024

GENESEO, N.Y., August 14, 2024 - Livingston County employees have once again partnered with Catholic Charities Steuben/Livingston to donate school supplies to local students in need.

Organized through the county’s SHAPE program (Supportive Health Awareness Program for Employees), employees brought in pens and pencils, folders, lunch boxes, backpacks, and other essential school items during the months of July and August for the Back to School Drive. Catholic Charities Steuben/Livingston collected the items and this week began distributing them to students and their families in need of a helping hand with school shopping.

Livingston County Deputy Clerk and SHAPE member Kristine Secor led the county’s school supply donation effort. She was moved by the generosity on display from across the county’s workforce.

“This just shows once again how our county employees are generous, caring and willing to help others when it’s needed. One of our staff members donated several backpacks all prepacked with a bunch of supplies. That really impressed me. I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to donate,” said Secor.

Donations will be available on a first come, first served basis for those Livingston County families working with Catholic Charities Steuben/Livingston and those using the charity’s Mount Morris office. Students whose districts are not already providing free school items will be eligible to receive the supplies through the non-profit charity organization.

“This makes a huge difference to the families we serve,” said Sally Ressue, Catholic Charities Steuben/Livingston director of emergency services and Back to School Drive donation organizer. “As you know the cost of these supplies can add up for our families and to have the help of the county employees each year helps us to meet this need. Catholic Charities Steuben/Livingston is thankful for the relationship that we have with Livingston County and their employees. Together we work collaboratively to meet the needs of our community. Your generosity with events such as this and the donations that your employees provide are much needed by our residents. We are grateful for everything you do to support our agency and community.”
