Home Posted on November 15, 2024

MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y., Nov. 15, 2024 - The Livingston County Department of Health has named Colin Wilcox as the department’s next director of environmental health, effective Nov. 17, 2024.

Prior to his new role, Wilcox was lead coordinator for the health department’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. There he worked to reduce the amount of lead hazards in the county, focusing on detecting and preventing childhood lead exposure in the home. Wilcox said he’s eager to jump into the new position and continue the important work of environmental health.

“I am really looking forward to this opportunity and am very grateful that I was chosen for the role,” said Wilcox. “I plan on getting up to speed on the various programs as quickly as possible in order to help out the team. I wish to continue open communication between the department heads, such as Community Health and Mental Health, to ensure uniformity across the Department of Health.”

A graduate of SUNY Brockport, Wilcox holds a Bachelor’s Degree in the Health Sciences field and brings more than eight years of public health experience to his new position. As environmental health director, he will oversee a number of wide-ranging programs and services aimed at preventing disease and reducing the public’s exposure to environmental hazards. Among these are public inspections of local food service establishments, lodgings, and public pools; radon awareness and testing for homeowners; inspection and testing of public water supplies; and management of the county’s dog control facility, including operation of the department’s dog adoption program.

"We are thrilled to promote from within and have Colin Wilcox step into this pivotal leadership role in our Environmental Health Division,” said Livingston County Public Health Director Jennifer Rodriguez. “Colin's experience in lead poisoning prevention and his dedication to public health make him an ideal fit for this position. We look forward to the fresh perspectives and innovative ideas Colin will bring to our environmental health initiatives."
