GENESEO, N.Y., Nov. 6, 2025 — The Livingston County Youth Bureau has launched a comprehensive countywide needs assessment to gather feedback directly from youth about their social, emotional and mental health. Conducted in partnership with Youth Power!, a state network hosted by Families Together in NYS, the project is a collaboration with the Genesee Valley Health Partnership’s Trauma Informed Communities committee and the Livingston County Suicide Prevention Task Force committee.
There are two phases to the assessment. Phase one will begin with a confidential survey of youth and adults. This voluntary survey was created by youth, for youth, to ensure their voice is heard. Organizers are seeking to understand what is working well, what improvements are required, and what young people feel they really need. Phase two will be an in-person youth forum planned for March of 2026. The forum will host 30 youth participants from across Livingston County who will come together to share ideas, talk about challenges, and work with adult allies to make positive changes in their communities. The survey will provide insights to guide discussion during the forum. The results of both the survey and forum will help organizers to set goals and develop strategies that align with their shared mission of improving the health and well-being of local youth.
The confidential survey includes questions related to home, school and community experiences. The Youth Bureau will use survey responses and the forum to examine current supports, identify gaps in resources and inform future youth programming. A separate survey is available for adults to provide their own input. All survey responses are confidential. Youth interested in joining the youth forum event can fill in contact information within the survey, though it does not guarantee them attendance at the forum.
