Livingston County Celebrates EMS Week

Home Posted on May 21, 2025

GENESEO, N.Y., May 21, 2025 The Livingston County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed May 18-24, 2025, as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week in Livingston County.

The EMS Week 2025 theme is “We care. For everyone.” This year’s celebration marks the 51st anniversary of the first National EMS Week in 1974. Livingston County joins with counties from across the nation in recognizing and celebrating the important contributions EMS professionals make in providing for the health and safety of those in their communities.

“This week we’re proudly shining a light on the EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, and support staff who go above and beyond the call of duty,” said Livingston County EMS Director Karen Dewar. “These are the individuals who bring calm to chaos, compassion to crisis, and expertise to every call. Their commitment isn’t just about responding to emergencies, it’s about making every patient feel seen, valued, and cared for. I can’t say enough about the courage, dedication and commitment of our frontline heroes here in Livingston County. I encourage all County residents to join in saluting their tireless efforts to safeguard our community's health and wellbeing.”

Several members of the County’s EMS team were recently recognized for their outstanding contributions to the field during the annual Monroe-Livingston Regional EMS Council Awards Ceremony. The council named Paramedic Meghan Kiefer as the Advanced Life Support Provider of the Year, Emergency Medical Technician Connor Thayer as the Basic Life Support Provider of the Year, and Paramedic Sarah Bracy as the Paramedic Rookie of the Year.

The County’s awardees exemplify kindness, respect, and professionalism, and residents should be proud to have them representing Livingston County EMS, said Dewar.

Livingston County EMS strives to provide excellence in emergency medical response through an integrated system, which combines all available resources to deliver top-quality patient care. This comprehensive approach coordinates the efforts of five basic life support ambulance services, ten fire department first response agencies, four advanced life support services, the SUNY Geneseo First Response Agency, and three air medical agencies. By seamlessly coordinating these resources, Livingston County ensures the rapid deployment of properly trained and equipped emergency personnel during crisis situations.
