Highway Department Seeking Public Input on Starr Road Bridge Replacement Project

Home Posted on February 06, 2025

MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y., Feb. 6, 2025 — The Livingston County Highway Department is looking to gather public comments on the proposed Starr Road over Taunton Gully Bridge Replacement project in the Town of Leicester.

The plan calls for construction of a new bridge with an estimated service life of at least 75 years to completely replace the current aging structure. The new bridge will be able to handle increased loads, while meeting all current federal, state and county safety standards. The project will also increase bridge roadway widths at the site by one foot resulting in 11-foot wide travel lanes and four-foot wide shoulders on both sides of the roadway for improved traffic operations.

The bridge will be closed to all through traffic during construction. A 5.3-mile off-site detour on Starr, Peoria, Wallace, Old State and Covington Roads will be used to maintain traffic flow.

Highway Department officials estimate a total project cost of approximately $1.36 million with Livingston County responsible for a 20% local share. Construction on the project is slated to begin in April of 2026 with an estimated completion date of October 2026.

Interested parties are welcome to submit their comments, concerns, or input on the project by Feb. 23, 2025, online through the Starr Road Public Comment Form. Forms may also be printed and submitted via e-mail at highway@co.livingston.ny.us; fax: 585-243-6715; phone: 585-243-6700; or by mail to: Livingston County Highway, 4389 Gypsy Lane, Mt. Morris, NY 14510.
